Central Florida Set to Host the 75th Running of the Orange Cup Regatta
Racers from Across the United States to compete on the “Lake of Records” March 1-3
Auburndale, Fla. (February 18, 2013) – The top power boat drivers representing 25 different states will descend upon Lakeland’s Lake Hollingsworth for the 75th running of the Orange Cup Regatta March 1-3. Each year the Orange Cup Regatta draws some of the top powerboat racers in the United States due to Lake Hollingsworth’s reputation as the “Lake of Records” on the powerboat circuit, but this year’s event is sure to draw even larger fields to celebrate the event’s 75th anniversary.
Several of the courses/classes have been certified as sanctioned world record courses, and with the lure of breaking world record speeds and times, competitors will begin their preparations with testing on Lake Hollingsworth on Friday, March 1. Races will be conducted throughout the weekend and in all, 15 different classes of boats will race including Inboard, Outboard, Outboard Performance Craft and a Youth Class.
Admission to the event is free to the public and, as in years past, spectators will have access to the pit area to get up close to the boats and racing teams. Drivers will be available for autographs and photo opportunities throughout the weekend.
