Collegiate Women’s Rugby National Championships Contested in Polk County this Weekend
Division I and Division II National Championships to be decided at Lake Myrtle Sports Park
Auburndale, Fla. (December 3, 2013) – The American Collegiate Rugby Association (ACRA) is hosting its inaugural championship at the Lake Myrtle Sports Park in Auburndale. Eight teams from across the country have qualified to face-off for the Division I and Division II National Championships. The Division I and Division II semi-final games will take place Saturday, December 7 with the Division I and Division II National Championship games being played on Sunday, December 8.
The Division I field is headed up by Norwich University, fresh off their USA Rugby Collegiate 7’s championship last week in Charlotte, NC. They will play the University of Northern Iowa in the first Division I semi-final at 1:00 PM.
The other Division I semi-final is a classic matchup between the United Military Academy at West Point and the United States Naval Academy. Because of sequestration, these teams weren’t able to play during the regular season. The luck of the draw means that Army and Navy will clash for the first time in Florida. This semi-final will be at 3:00 PM.
Winona State University, the defending national champion, is the top seed in Division II. They will play Kutztown University in the first Division II semi-final at 9:00 AM. The other Division II semi-final pits Notre Dame College against Vassar College at 11:00 AM.
On Sunday, the Division II championship game will be played at noon followed by the Division I championship at 2:00 PM. Consolation games in both Divisions will be held at 10:00 AM.
Tickets each day are $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, and children under 8 are free.
