More Than 2100 Triathletes to Compete in IRONMAN 70.3 Florida This Week

Weekend Activities Include Consumer Expo, Run the Ridge 5k and IRONKIDS Florida Fun Run

Haines City, FL (April 6, 2015) – Competitors from 17 states and from 14 countries will l descend on Central Florida this week to test their athletic abilities, stamina and competitive drive on the IRONMAN 70.3 Florida swimming, running and cycling course. Triathletes from Florida make up the largest contingent of competitors, with over 1100 entries, and members of tri-clubs from the Tampa, St. Petersburg, Orlando, Jacksonville and Miami areas will also compete in the event.

While the more than 2100 adult athletes will be focused on the competition and the challenge provided by the 70.3 mile triathlon course, area residents will be able to take in the IRONMAN experience on a much more leisurely pace. Lake Eva Park in Haines City will host three full days of activities that will appeal to the entire family, April 10-12.

Beginning on Friday, April 10 the IRONMAN Village and the Lake Eva Park Bandshell will serve as the hub of all activities during IRONMAN weekend. The Bandshell area will be host to athlete check-in and the adjacent IRONMAN Village will serve as perfect gathering and meeting place for spectators. The IRONMAN Village will feature exhibitor booths, an on-site bicycle shop and the Official IRONMAN Store and many other product and service displays.

Competition gets underway on Saturday morning as Haines City Leisure Services will hold the Run the Ridge 5K at 8 a.m. Individuals that are interested in participating in the Run the Ridge 5K can register at Active.com. The IRONKIDS Florida Fun Run will line up for a 10 a.m. start.

Sunday’s IRONMAN 70.3 Florida competition begins at 6:50 a.m. with the 1.2 mile swim in Lake Eva. Upon completion of the swim competitors will then embark on the 56 mile bicycle route through eastern Polk County and then complete the competition on the 13.1 mile running course utilizing the roads around Lake Eva. The event will conclude with the awards ceremony at the Lake Eva Park Bandshell at 4 p.m.

8 a.m. – Run the Ridge 5K
9 a.m. – 4 p.m. – IRONMAN Village & Official IRONMAN Store Open
9 a.m. – 4 p.m. – Information booth open
10 a.m. – IRONKIDS Florida Fun Run
10 a.m. & 2 p.m. – Athlete briefings

Sunday 4/12

5 a.m. – 4 p.m. – Information booth open
6:50 a.m. – IRONMAN 70.3 Florida Race Start
7 a.m. – 3 p.m. – IRONMAN Village & Official IRONMAN Store Open
4 p.m. – Awards Ceremony
