Tourist Development Council
Central Florida's Polk County Tourist Development Council primary objective is to increase overnight stays in Polk County accommodations and enhance the county’s economic climate.
The Polk County Tourist Development Council (TDC) is comprised of nine members, from Polk County’s tourism and hospitality industry, that report to the Polk County Board of County Commissioners. The TDC is the governing body that oversees the collection, marketing, management, capital investment and distribution of Polk County’s tourist development tax, which is assessed on the rental of short term (six months or less) accommodations in Polk County. The TDC, per Florida Statutes, is charged with certain duties in regard to oversight of the expenditure of the funds and is responsible for insuring that the tax proceeds are spent appropriately. The Polk County TDC was established 1986 to administer funds collected from a resort tax (initially 2%).
Tourist Development Council (TDC) Board members must derive a portion of their income, or be employed in a business that deals directly with tourists, has an extensive knowledge of or background in the marketing and/or sales of tourism goods or services. Examples of such businesses would include attractions, restaurants, museums, hospitality education and other businesses, which cater to tourists.
TDC Meetings are generally held on the 4th Thursday, every other month. DATES
TDC Nominating Committee
Tourist Development Council (TDC) Nominating Committee will meet anytime there is a vacancy or appointment to be made to the TDC board (normally once a year).
