Lake Wales, FL (April 5, 2005)- One year ago, Winter Haven’s John Janawicz made bowling history at the American Bowling Congress National Championship in Reno, Nevada when he lit the Reno Bowling Stadium up with a three game score of 858, the highest total bowled during the singles event of the ABC National Tournament. This year, “Double J” as he is known, as will be the lone American representative on the men’s side of the Kegel World Ranking Masters being held at Kegel’s Training Center in Lake Wales. The Kegel World Ranking Masters 2005 bowling tournament is considered one of the major events on the World Tenpin Bowling Association (WTBA) schedule this year. The bowlers qualified through a series of tournaments within the American, Asian, or European zone last year and the top 8 men and women from each zone points list are rewarded with a chance to compete the first place prize of $10,000. This will be the second time that the Kegel Training Center has hosted this tournament, the last time was 2003. Admission to watch this event is free including the finals on Saturday April 30 which will be televised on Sun Sports Network. This event is considered by the players as one of the biggest tournaments to win due to the use of dual lane conditioning patterns through out the tournament. The distance of the lane conditioner is 35 feet on one pattern and 43 feet on the other pattern. The shorter pattern will favor the players that like playing closer to the gutters or the outside portion of the lane while the longer pattern will favor those who like playing more in the center of the lane. The two pattern tournament is to create a balance so all players have an equal chance at winning by using their skill to bowl as apposed to picking the right ball or standing in the right spot at the right time. This year’s tournament will also have Diandra Asbaty from Chicago who is the defending champion from last year’s tournament in Moscow Russia along with Sweden’s Anders Ohman and Denmark’s Britt Brondsted who were the past winners in Lake Wales back in 2003. --30--
